The brilliant book publishers Visual Editions, founded by Anna Gerber and Britt Iversen, transform books into visual explorations of the stories within. In Anna and Britt’s words ‘books should be as interesting as the stories they tell.’
This all results in a completely new experience for us, the reader; not only are we presented with a fantastic story, but the addition of clever visuals allow us to become completely absorbed in the narrative in a way which we have never experienced before.
The visual elements contained within the books come in ‘all shapes and guises’ however Anna and Britt are careful not to make them gimmicky or over the top. We love how they explain that ‘without [these elements], [the] story would be something altogether different.’ They view them as an integral part of the narrative itself, not as an extra, in the way that some books use images. Visual Editions instead weave and stitch the elements into the story so they become one entity.
Die cutting, crossing out words, diagrams, it’s all there.
Absolutely genius work.
